What is Dental Implants?
A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of biocompatible materials such as titanium or zirconium, placed to replace missing teeth. These screws, surgically inserted into the jawbone, restore natural tooth function and aesthetics when topped with a crown, bridge, or prosthesis.
Modern implant dentistry is a reliable treatment method that has been successfully applied for over 50 years with a 95-98% success rate. Implants fuse with the jawbone (osseointegration) to form a permanent and stable foundation. With proper care, they can last a lifetime.
Treatment Stages
Initial Examination and Planning
Detailed oral examination, 3D tomography, and treatment planning are performed. Bone structure and overall health status are evaluated.
Surgical Implant Placement
Under local anesthesia, the implant screw is placed into the jawbone. The procedure usually takes 30-60 minutes and is painless.
Healing Process (Osseointegration)
2-6 months are allowed for the implant to fuse with the jawbone. A temporary tooth can be used during this time.
Abutment Placement
After healing is complete, an abutment piece for the crown is placed on the implant.
Permanent Crown Placement
A custom-made porcelain or zirconium crown is fixed onto the implant. Treatment is completed.
Dental Implants Types
Endosteal (In-Bone) Implants
The most commonly used type. Placed directly into the jawbone. Can be in the form of screws, cylinders, or plates.
Subperiosteal (On-Bone) Implants
For patients with insufficient bone density. Placed on the bone, under the gum tissue.
Zygomatic Implants
For patients with severe bone loss in the upper jaw. Placed in the cheekbone (zygoma).
Mini Implants
Thinner than standard implants. Generally used for securing dentures or in narrow bone areas.
